Image result for acetic acid

Home treatment of an external ear infection (swimmer’s ear)

1:1 dilution of white vinegar and water (~2.5% acetic acid), 20 minutes, twice a day, for 1-2 weeks.

*100% white vinegar will leave your skin with chemical burns, which will take 5 days to heal, because the pH is 2.6.

Prevention

1:1 dilution of white vinegar and isopropyl alcohol for 5 minutes after swimming or bathing.

Future Directions

While myself and others have used these remedies, I welcome a clinical study of this treatment, to help end antibiotic abuse, and slow growing antibiotic bacterial resistance.

Disclaimer: Do not use if you have a ruptured ear drum. If symptoms do not improve in 2-3 days, seek immediate medical attention.
